AVIS UAE Profile
The very first Avis office was opened in 1946 in the United States and the company rapidly expanded to firstly a national and then an international rent a car network.
In 1975 Mr. Hareb Mohammed Al Otaiba, a highly respected and prominent businessman, was successful in securing the franchise for Avis in the United Arab Emirates and the company's first office was opened in Abu Dhabi. Following Avis' initial success it was Mr. Hareb Mohammed Al Otaiba's vision to expand throughout the country which he achieved with the help of his business partner, Col Mohd Saeed Al Ghaith, in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
Following the untimely death of Mr. Hareb Mohammed Al Otaiba in 1995 the stewardship of Avis UAE passed to his son Mr. Mohammed Hareb Al Otaiba who is now Chairman of the Al Otaiba Group of Companies which includes, Al Otaiba, Avis, Xerox, Ferretti, and prominent agencies such as Nashua, Bosch, Candy, Brunswick, Maytag and Steelite.

As a result of the company's continued programme of expansion Avis UAE can now boast a network of 40 branches, a fleet size of approximately 7500 vehicles and a dedicated team of 2200 professional staff. The company's activities encompass a comprehensive range of services to meet its customers requirements including daily and short term rentals, long term leasing, dedicated bus transportation services, and tailor made chauffeur drive services.

Avis UAE has, by virtue of outstanding customer service, emerged as the foremost vehicle rental and leasing company in the country. Avis has the widest network of branches and is the only rental company to benefit from the continuity of being operated under the same management umbrella throughout the Emirates.

- 'Best Car Hire Company Award' for three years in succession, as voted by the readers of the Middle East Economic Digest Magazine.
- 'Best Rental Company Award' for six years in succession by the readers of the Arab Travel and Tourism News.
- 'Avis Licensee of the Year Award' for two years awarded by our European Headquarters from amongst 100 competing countries.
- 'ISO 9001' - first car rental company in the Middle East to achieve this quality certification.
- 'Defensive Driving Training Centre' - the only car rental company in the Middle East to operate under certification from and the guidelines of the National Safety Council USA
Quality Control and Staff Training
The quality system in Avis conforms to the quality system standard ISO 9001. All systems are strictly adhered to and monitored in accordance with our quality procedure manual to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards at all times.
Staff training and development is also subject to the rigorous controls of ISO 9001 and is undertaken in accordance with our quality procedure manual.
In addition Avis is the only car rental and leasing company to operate an approved Defensive Driving Training Centre under the guidance and certification of the National Safety Council USA. All Avis drivers are required to attend annual courses for defensive driving techniques which are conducted by qualified instructors.
Reporting and Control Procedures
Reporting and control procedures are detailed in the Avis ISO 9001 quality procedure manual, which includes a comprehensive internal and external corrective action procedure to ensure that any non conformities are highlighted and dealt with to prevent recurrence.
